i'm having some display issues with gnome (i think it is the video driver) so imma try xubuntu and kubuntu. i will most likely end up with kubuntu.

Yes it can. People have managed to run xubuntu with as little as 64mb of ram. 128 should be just fine but if you find it too slow try PuppyLinux, that thing is almost too fast :D

@lepppzero: You can do it. Install Xfce with 'apt-get install xubuntu-desktop' and later uninstall GNOME with 'apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop'. But, if you only use Xfce, install Xubuntu directly.
