Description:

A ten-minute video excerpt from a one-hour documentation of a drama of sacrifice exemplified by two ants making their frail bodies as bridges for the rest of the other ants going about their chores for the day. Handheld, I couldn't keep up videographing with the patience and determination of these two ants who after performing their roles were brought up by a sympathizer ant via the tiny twig, perhaps to rest, to again perform the same task for the next days to come. I caught this particular scene at the start of this video after the first ant performed the sacrificial task for 30 minutes . . a touching experience, I must admit. Do test your patience too by finishing watching this incredible feat of two ants hanging on to a twig despite the wind, their frail bodies and minimal strength. This was first in their maker, so it is also manifested in them, the created . . less found in humans nowadays. BTW, like ants, we can do something together to prepare us for the future, click on this link: click to join: http://www.uvme.biz/EVO193546GB also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQhqbd8Zn-M (to convince you) Tnx4Viewing, Glenn A. Once the ant was exhausted I'd assume they'd cart it back to the nest to be "recycled". Think it's a bit naive to say "a bigger ant took it away for a rest"

ants, no leaders or rulers and yet they gather and build for the benefit of the whole, and humans with all our intelligence can't do this

w/o the ant biting the twig and acting as a bridge, the twig would have just wiggled to and fro because of the wind making it impossible for the other ants to cross.. two ants took turns for an hour that i videod them until they petrified.

ha ha, from my camera, i didn't see any reaction except that i know it finally got so exhausted that it had to be brought home by a bigger ant while another ant took its place. I guess, only the bridge ant would know.

i wonder how they got to know that, intuition, experimentation, research or just a wild guess?

you have "despite their mimimal sterngth" but the matter of fact is that ants are one of the strongest animals in the world .. they can lift something of 100 times their body weight .. tell me can an elephant or rhino do that ??

There's no smart, or thinking ant - an ant nest is a great example for a self-organising swarm structure. Each ant just follows its own relatively simple system of rules, and somehow everything works out. I'm trying to find a certain relevant edition of National Geographic where they talked about this, but I can't find it.

The queen doesn't give any orders. She just makes more ants.
