Description: This is a clip of Labelle (Nona Hendryx, Patti Labelle and Sarah Dash) burning up the stage in 1977, shortly before they broke up. Lyrically, this is Nona Hendryx at the top of her game--the double entendres here are amazing! It doesn't get any better than this and the vocals are stunning--no wonder Labelle was considered the darlings of NYC's avant garde underground. Enjoy! |

bobcooksey ::: Favorites 2007-12-31 21:20:23 Because of my interest in Labelle and Rufus at the time, I ended up collecting all the Emotion's stuff. My favorite songs by them were "What's the Name of Your Love" (that song rocked like a Labelle track), and "Walking the Line" which was a beautiful, stellar ballad. I also loved "Flowers" and "Don't Ask My Nieghbors." __________________________________________________
mangopaper ::: Favorites 2007-12-31 15:06:40 The number one female soul group ever. The second is the Emotions. The Supremes are the number one female pop group, but they were not true soul singers. They could have been if Flo had been allowed to maintain the lead, but Berry Gordy wanted a "popular" sound so he muted real singing for Diane's quirky but adequate voice. __________________________________________________
mistermilkman ::: Favorites 2007-12-26 17:32:01 4 sure...Minnie Riperton is still my favorite soprano ever. I refuse 2 compare her with Sarah. I love both of them. __________________________________________________
duaneolivertaylor ::: Favorites 2007-12-26 15:23:22 Sarah Dash is the best soprano of this era. __________________________________________________
mistermilkman ::: Favorites 2007-12-25 10:28:58 Sarah is not 2 be messed with @ all...highly slept on soprano. __________________________________________________

iboudiop ::: Favorites 2007-12-23 22:43:50 Bob, I think I've watch this about 30 times since you've posted it. I just keep thinking LaBelle was part one part gospel trio, one part rock group, and about 20 parts nervous breakdown. LOL Somebody pass the communion wine! LOL __________________________________________________
duaneolivertaylor ::: Favorites 2007-12-20 16:40:01 The best black rock band, that was ever created. __________________________________________________
TheChakaKhanZone ::: Favorites 2007-12-18 02:49:35 Nona Hendryx is one a the best SONGWRITERS to ever walk the face of this earth. The SEXUAL innuendo's are OFF DA CHAIN ! __________________________________________________
frankndustyfan ::: Favorites 2007-12-17 18:01:03 One of the greatest ballads ever written, from one of the greatest albums in the history of recorded music. I shiver watching this, because the 11 year old that saw Labelle in Atlanta in 1975 is hearing his favorite group live again, thanks to bob's non-stop generosity. Once again: thank you bob! __________________________________________________
dresvoice ::: Favorites 2007-12-17 01:40:23 Thank you SO much for posting this! This is one of my favorite Labelle songs! GOD I CANT WAIT FOR THE REUNION TOUR! __________________________________________________
bobcooksey ::: Favorites 2007-12-13 18:40:54 You're welcome Pam. Is it just me, or do Nona and Sarah look hotter than hell in this clip? I didn't like the seashell get-ups--but these costumes are very cool. You can tell Sarah just slithered into that dress! And Nona looks stunning as per usual. __________________________________________________
pammiru ::: Favorites 2007-12-13 17:18:13 Great Great video Bob, I can't wait to see more!! __________________________________________________
bobcooksey ::: Favorites 2007-12-13 09:22:11 Yeah--Nona's lyrics always straddled the line between the sexual and the spiritual, and this song is a perfect illustration of that. __________________________________________________
chemistryprofessor ::: Favorites 2007-12-12 23:14:47 This performance is vintage Labelle Thanks for posting it my dude It is one of my favorite Labelle songs!! The intensity and sexual connotations distinguished labelle from any group. I saw Labelle perform this at the Palladium Theater, in NYC back in the 70's. They blew me away along with the intense marijuana clouds in the theater!! DreDude __________________________________________________ |
