JustPlaneNuts ::: Favorites 2007-11-11 23:13:20 I disagree with that fundamentally! I think its great to see kids interested in politics, hell, I wish more adults were. You have to start somewhere. Everyone should know whats going on in the world. __________________________________________________

alnewberry ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 17:59:17 If you live in the North, you'd have the same flag. The confederacy and the union would just be separate entities. __________________________________________________
jkilts ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 17:45:55 actually, if my memory serves me correctly, if the South had won the Civil War, there still would be our current flag, but with less stars. The Confederates were not trying to destroy the Union completely, they just wanted to hurt it enough so it'll let them be their own country. __________________________________________________
jkilts ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 17:42:26 great video! __________________________________________________
RogCBrand ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 17:10:56 There's no way to prove it, but I believe that if the South had won, they would have continued slavery, as fighting a costly war then giving it up would have seemed like madness, especially to the rich & powerful who owned the slaves. North America would have been like South America, perhaps with more regions breaking off when they disagreed with others. I'm glad we're one nation, as I think we're stronger united than divided. __________________________________________________
RogCBrand ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 17:08:23 Yes, Lincoln & the North fought to preserve the Union and yes, the South fought for state's rights. But those things came about because of years of disagreement over slavery. The question of slavery was at the core of the Civil War & many Union soldiers considered that to be the biggest issue- not all, but many. __________________________________________________
RogCBrand ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 17:06:31 I think that through all the good & bad that this country has gone through it's all worked for the best. Though we've made mistakes we've also done so much that is good. Look at WWII. Not only did we help defeat the fascist nations, but afterward we went in a rebuilt Germany & Japan, making them friends. __________________________________________________
UnionKid15 ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 15:43:38 lol, agreed Matt. __________________________________________________
patriotaction ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 15:42:34 Gee, maybe I didn't answer him because I went to church at 9 am and then got home a few minutes ago at 2 pm. Not everyone LIVES on youtube. Some of us have lives. __________________________________________________
tellshiar ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 14:53:58 Many people consider the CSA flag as a banner of racism but it really represents insurrection. Union soldiers were not fighting to end slavery but to "Preserve the Union". The USA was created by the people and for the people and back then not ALL the people wanted the Union to splinter so Congress was within its rights to go to war to preserve the nation. __________________________________________________
Jeremiad82 ::: Favorites 2007-09-02 14:51:11 Josh, it's more that the South seceded because they feared the Republicans would limit slavery. See "Ordinances of Secession" at americancivilwar DOT com SLASH documents for the South's use of the Constitution to justify secession. Lincoln's counter argument is in his "1st Inaugural Address". __________________________________________________ |
