This is a 4-5 minute selection from a half-hour long presentation I completed for a Religious Studies class offered by California State University. [I'm aware of the typos!! This video was prepared using material from the rough draft!!] The class is dedicated to the analysis of various religious and secular apocalyptic groups. Main points: A) Humans are gullible creatures. Where does our reason go when we're afraid? B) Why do we focus so much on WHEN the world will end, rather looking to ourselves as the true problem? The latest craze circulates around 12/21/2012. The full version puts 12/21/2012 in the context of other supposed apocalypses: the Millerite Movement/The Great Disappointment, 6/6/06, Heaven's Gate, Y2K, Jonestown, The Jupiter Effect, etc. etc. etc. The video is quite extensive. The film posits Revelation as one of the most misunderstood books ever written, as well as the writings of Nostradamus- not books of prophecy at all, and the Mayan Calendar, from which the 12/21/2012 craze originates, as misinterpreted by the West and New Agers. Full report available by request. |
